I once had a teacher who felt that disappointment was the worst of all negative emotions. It can stop you in your tracks and send you down the path of resentment, triggering our deepest fears and false beliefs. Out of disappointment we may lose hope, desert a plan and give up, feeling certain that goodness is not meant for us. On October 1-3rd we have a rare opportunity to look past disappointment Our worlds may be shaken. Catastrophe may have taken hold. But we can peer into disappointment and glimpse the wisdom of Japanese poet and samurai Misuta Masahide: “My barn, having burned to the ground, I can now see the moon.” Though mercury is in a difficult position with Chiron bringing up past hurts and making it difficult to let things go, Venus, Neptune and the north node help us to see past the smolder, inspiring us with the beauty of all that remains. Sometimes what remains is far more precious than what was standing in front of us.

October 4th is a good day to put your head down and get to work. We’ll have the support of the planets for disciplined and concentrated efforts. We’ll also feel a certain amount of passion and purpose in all that we do. However, our focus may get us in trouble with our partnerships. A conflict will definitely occur by Oct 5th. Even though we are thinking about our relationships and that all we do is for them, we feel at odds with our partners. We are thinking about the future but, at the moment, our inattentiveness will bring forth the insecurities in our relationships and jealousies may arise.

Though we may be aiming for a sense of balance, we believe we can achieve more than is possible. There is something transformative that is pushing us over that edge. Our creativity is piqued and we want to transcend, and there just doesn’t seem to be any middle of the road path to it. So though we may feel like we are being cautious, our actions could still lead to disequilibrium. The caution is to remain open to error.

As mercury moves into Libra on Oct 7th, conversations move to relations. Love relations, business relations, relations centered on justice.
Have you ever had a conversation with someone where you felt compelled to cut them off and force your perspective? Though we are not sure why, at times we want to do this at all costs. We don’t let the other person finish their story, and often even being unaware that we are doing it. The problem is we have an over reaching desire to express who we are and the experiences we have had. We are conflicted with meeting our needs and with opening space for others to have their needs met. The best way to use this energy is to be aware of our urge to dominate, be open to interruptions and to make sure we are asserting ourselves on all sides. This is the best way to get our needs met and our ideas heard.

Second Week Oct 10 – 16

October 11th really hits the sweet spot. It’s like the initial spark of a relationship when both partners talk endlessly. The conversation delights, enlightens and builds the connection. This is because Mercury and Jupiter join up with each other in Libra, the relationship sign. But it gets better. Venus, the goddess of love, and Juno, the marriage asteroid, are compelled to collide. The merger will be dazzling. We want to share, merge, possess. We want to lose where we start and another ends. We want our joining with another to form a superpower. Together we can do anything. Together we build each other, ourselves and our resources. Scorpio is also the sign of shared resources and nothing makes a relationship feel more solid than the ability to build shared capital. Added to the mix is mars in the ambitious Capricorn sextile and Neptune in visionary Pisces. On October 12th we have the energy and motivation to get moving on whatever we have envisioned over the last couple of days. Partnership issues and conflicts may call for the need for reconciliation and to build the bridge for better relating. Though disagreements are likely, we have a stern but fair approach with mercury in Libra squaring mars in Capricorn. We are not perfect, and our ability to hear and remain open to grievances will go far to deepen our relationships. By the 13th we start to feel the need for freedom. Like a child exploring the world, we want to remain close, but not helmed in. Allowing for this freedom fills a deep need, but also allows for growth.

We delight in the shades of grey, the abstraction of thought, the mind bending possibilities. We are unafraid and unfettered as we plow into new terrain. Exploring and leaving behind the safety of the values we once knew, the beliefs we held dear and all that we thought we wanted. On the other hand we feel moved to defend our freedoms. We feel adamant – fiercely passionate that we can find our own way. However, manipulations and power tactics will not be taken lightly.

Third Week – Oct 17 – 23

By Oct 18th a pattern starts will emerge and positive thoughts will gain ground. As Venus moves into Sagittarius we open to expanding ideals. We are ready to learn and adventure brings us into alignment with our values. In fact we may be a little excessive in our need for excitement and adventure – adventure hems on extremes. With Mars meeting up with Pluto on Oct 19th, we have a need to summit Mount Everest or conquer the Alaskan wild. We sit perched on a dangerous mountain with loose rocks, thin air and inclement weather off in the distance. Or, isolated in the wild with only berries, our survival skills and the agreement of nature, we stand resolved. We know that others have perished on this journey, but somehow we need this. We get pleasure from it. We challenge ourselves beyond our limits and are transformed, one way or another.

It’s best to get a journal and write out your thoughts by Oct 20th. Our minds may be racing so fast that the use of point form, acronyms, texts, or some form of short hand may be needed. Right now we are challenged to evolve our definition of relationships. We’re grappling with many realizations, many of which are centred on how we connect and bond with others. Just what are our needs? How do we get close without feeling smothered? At this time we are likely to go into a childlike processing method. We may feel that the only way we can maintain a sense of self with others is if we view others as an extension of ourselves. Yet this isn’t fair. We have a resistance to our own needs in a new world. We rebel inside wanting our freedom, but also wanting our “baby blankie”. This is a time when we will be challenged to “grow-up.”

On Oct 22, the sun moves into Scorpio, moving us into a deeper examination of the unknown. Many of us have become uncomfortable with not knowing and are motivated to seek answers through investigation and analysis. Through this examination we may become aware of a need that we are comfortable with expressing. This also means we have a difficulty in asking others to meet that need. We feel embarrassed at having the need and if we are unpracticed in asking, may create conflict or strike up a fight in order to ‘make others responsible’ for knowing what we need. The best way to approach this energy is, as I always say, to spend time in reflection and to get clear about your discomfort. Once clarified, practice ways of moving through it in a fair manner in order to ask for what you need.

The days between Oct 24 and 25th it will be hard to trust anyone! Communications take on an intense and suspicious nature when Mercury moves into Scorpio. We might get obsessed or hung up on a particular word that was used and spend way too much time analyzing exactly what was meant! The problem is, there really is a tendency for dishonesty at this time. We are not imagining it! We are not getting all of the information and this makes it difficult to make solid decisions. The other way this may play out is that we are slapped in the face with the truth. We uncover something we would rather just as well bury again. This is particularly so with relationships and in relation to money.

By Oct 26th we’ll feel as though we are turning a corner. The good thing is that we have an extremely favourably transit for having a good time. If you are planning to take a vacation, this is the week to do it! Venus will be in an extremely adventurous mood and, connecting with Jupiter in Libra, will feel like being social. It’s also a good time for an early Halloween party or any other type of social gathering.
A word of caution for those of us who may be thinking about mixing business and pleasure. Don’t! We may be having so much fun that we make agreements and deals that will not serve us later on. The problem is the timing will feel right. In many ways it is right. Things are becoming clearer. We are learning more. This is a great time to look at structures that we have established, proposals that have come to our desk, or any plans or projects that involve money. The focus needs to remain on the examination of viability. This is a good time for going through the numbers, the books and the budget. It’s a great time for running reports, getting the data and finding out the facts. Our concentration is good and we’ll be able to spot inconsistencies. We’ll also have a sense of practicality and will be able to be fair in our assessments of information. BUT, have you ever made a decision not knowing exactly why you are making it, knowing that it is wrong and even having all the information that tells you that you are making a mistake? On the 27th, even though we have the ability to accurately assess information, something gets in the way.

The problem with the energy at this time is that there may be something unsavory grounded in our self esteem that leads us astray. An internal saboteur. A gremlin that takes over the show, making us rash and impulsive, and prone to making decisions that may lead to big problems later on.

The New Moon on Oct 30th is in Scorpio. The theme of this New Moon is transcendence and unconditional love and leadership. This New Moon asks you to deepen your connection to spirit, our connection to each other and for those who have mastery, to lead the way. What’s special about this New Moon is that it really does embody the career of the “light worker”. Set intentions to deepen even more. To stand as an example for others and to be humbled when we believe we are more than what we really are. Even if we stumble, embarrass ourselves, or get caught in a lie or apparent scandal, we are brought face to face with ourselves. You may have experienced some power tactics or power plays – anything to get you to do it their way. On the other hand, you may have been the one trying to strong arm someone. Though you may come out with a decent deal, you may hear yourself cursing the process.

The same goes for vacation. In North America, it’s the start of a long weekend and this energy is perfect for starting a vacation. The New Moon is in nurturing Cancer. This nurturing New Moon will have an added element of vision, creativity, and imagination. Art is not just Art, but rather a pattern of images that weave together sacred, intellectual, and emotional concepts, communicating to the world what cannot be said otherwise. Years ago I was on a trek with 11 women in Nepal. There was one of everything: we had Islamic, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, and Mormon women present. One day at dinner we decided to compare what we all believed. No fights erupted. Many of our values were common to everyone, though some points were misunderstood or mis-perceived by other religions. No one tried to sway anyone to their way of thinking. It was just an open exchange. When Mercury and Jupiter connect on the 8th, we’ll have a similar opportunity. On July 11th, many of us will experience monkey mind. Our minds go off in a million different directions and focus will be difficult. We are incredibly prone to having some stuff on our minds. Sometimes we need to pause, pull out our journals, or a piece of paper and jot down everything that keeps swimming around in our heads. Silencing the mind in mediation will also help. The potential exists to have flashes of insight and breakthroughs if we direct our minds.

On July 12th, Venus moves into Leo and there is a bit of a conflict right from the very start. Venus in Leo loves to have fun, play, and take risks, but this comes into conflict with responsibilities so relationship inequalities could show their face. In personal relationships, we may be confronted with double standards. In business relationships, we may be confronted with conflicting roles or rules. How do we handle it when we both want the credit or we both want the praise? How do we both have fun and take care of our responsibilities?

Fortunately the opportunity exists for us to see into and redefine the roles using a unique standard. Decide what works for you, even if the world outside sees it as a little bizarre.

By July 13th, Mercury will follow Venus into Leo. Immediately another conflict emerges. This one focuses on our attachments. For parents, this may be may be the idea of letting your new teen go to the amusement park and get on all those crazy rollercoasters by themselves. For businesses, this could mean a challenge not to micro-manage your team – is standing by the water cooler helping or hindering their efficiency? It’s time to have confidence in your team, allowing them to show off their leadership, and to know that having fun is highly productive! There are no “shoulds” in your approach to this, but make sure you’re not projecting your own fears and blocking great potential.

The best approach is to have a thorough discussion. You may be making some assumption and, even if conflict arises, it is the way through to understanding.

On July 16th we’ll go into business mode. Negotiations with contract, business agreements or financial agreements will all come to the fore. But our approach during this time might catch us off guard. Inside we are brewing with a need to break free from something. Maybe it’s our own internal barriers that have caused us to have upper limits, and we become clear about how we have been sabotaging our own success. Or we may feel pushed to our limit by something in our world that makes us make new departures into new and better paths or ways of doing things.

Between the 17th and 18th of July, the Sun, Mars and Chiron will dance in a grand trine, inspiring us further into action. The thing is we might feel a sting by a innocent comment made by someone or a little burn caused by witnessing someone else’s success. It’s not that anyone is trying to hurt us and we certainly don’t have ill will for others success, it’s just that we may feel we should have that by now, or “I’m just as good as he is!” And so it’s this little bit of a sting mixed with competition that stirs us into action, pushing us to prove that we can do it too!

Fourth Week

Full Moon in Capricorn

What to watch out for: being too hard on ourselves
What will it affect? Achievement and goals

The Full Moon on the 19th is in Capricorn. At this Full Moon we are assessing the implication of taking the Red pill or the Blue pill. But wait. What was the red pill for again? Does the Blue pill mean I live outside or inside the matrix? This is a time of updating our accounts, balancing the budget and running the reports of how we have lead our lives. But it’s not just our balance sheets that we are assessing, but also the impact on other areas of our lives that have been comprised to get there. High income may have meant long hours and low self care. Low income may be reflected in giving too much to our relationships and not enough to ourselves. Or vise versa. We have a critical eye and are able to pinpoint our mistakes. Things are coming to a culmination now and the culmination may be pointing to areas for growth.

The Sun moves into Leo on July 22nd and again, as we are about to express our leadership, fun /and creativity, we are challenged with a conflict. Are we compromising our diets? Do we go forth expressing ourselves and forget to pack a healthy snack, only to end up eating a quick chocolate bar or fast food burger? Do we need to incorporate more planned and preparedness into our ventures? Similarly we may have forgotten to include our partners only to experience jealousy or subtle sabotage. Finding ways for inclusion and sharing is the best approach.

If you are thinking about hiring one of your children and relatives on summer vacation, this may be a time when it will actually be enjoyable. Make the most of this time as you teach them about what you do and help them to learn the ropes!

On July 27th, we have an opportunity for brainstorming and having flashing of brilliance or insight. If you are looking for an idea creation day for you or your team, this is great energy to get you going.

Just remember the rules of the brainstorming game. Nobody gets to be wrong! No idea is stupid.

Use lots of sticky notes and take lots of notes. The days following your idea creation day will be great for organizing all of that data when Mercury goes into Virgo.

The last couple of days of July will be great for working together with your partner. Take note of the conflicts that have arisen throughout the month and use them to form your discussion. This strategy also holds true for your relationship to your children or others that you nurture (including your inner child).
