October Horoscope 2014

Have you noticed that things have been going a little crazy in our lives and in the world at large lately? Well October will be a month of reckoning.  How can it not be?  In October we have a lunar and solar eclipse. Plus Mercury will go retrograde – all astrological energies known to be game changers.

Mercury slips into Scorpio at the beginning of the month and then goes retrograde on the 4th of October. The first couple of days of Mercury retrograde may be a little intense; not only will mercury turn retrograde on that day, but the Sun will also square Pluto. Words spoken might sting and power plays may be in full effect. Mars is also square Chiron and though we will feel motivated to heal our hurts, we might come across like a spoiled child. Be careful of temper tantrums. I always write the horoscope as though I am speaking to one person, but what I am speaking of is the energy at play. While I speak about the energy and happenings from a personal perspective, it also applies to the world stage. So my advice for this energy is to take it slow, consciously consider your thoughts and words and focus on how you are behaving. If every person did that, including those in powerful positions can you imagine the impact? On the 5th Saturn will conjunct Ceres and we may feel our inner child wounded and longing for connection. Mars’ trine Uranus will help us to break through any obstacles that exist. This is an energy that helps us to have new insights.

With new insights come a new desire for a new direction, which will get a boost on October 7th when the sun will oppose Uranus. It will charge us up with restlessness and a desire for change. Change is on the agenda. Any aspect to either Uranus or Pluto is furthering that whole transformation that is happening within us and on a global level.  Just remember, things can look messy on the outside and I think we can all agree – they do. If we look at the analogy of the ‘healing crisis’ – that awful feeling we get just before we are about to get well while doing a detox – then we can accept the headache, the feelings of nausea and the discomfort with a little more hope that all will be better soon. Change is happening and it will lead to good things.

Speaking of change, there is a lunar eclipse on the 8th in Aries at 15°. This is when the sun and the moon are opposite one another and the earth gets in the way. Normally the earth is a little off to the side and  doesn’t create an obstruction. But when the luminaries are perfectly aligned, the Earth gets in the way and creates a shadow on the moon;  this is a lunar eclipse.  Full moons are pretty powerful, but Lunar eclipses are a ‘supercharged’ full moon.  Anything can happen! This lunar eclipse is so interesting. On one side the Sun will be holding hands with Venus and on the other side, the moon will be high fiving Uranus. On their own both Venus and the Moon are feminine and thus attractors. This means they are most powerful when they are being receptive. Though not her natural or even most powerful way of being, every once in a while the feminine needs to dig deep and take action. This is what is going to happen at this lunar Eclipse.

This energy reminds me of the Clan Mother in the Iroquois tribes.  The role of Clan Mother existed to make sure that the community’s needs and the children’s best interest were always at heart. Though the men ran the show, when needed the Clan mothers had veto rights. If she saw things get out of hand, Clan Mother had the right to step in, take action, make sure of the communities best interests. That’s what’s happening now.  The Moon (mother) is getting wound up by something and is springing into action.

I always laugh at a story my friend, who is a twin, once told me. When she and her twin were babies, and her mother and father new parents, her parents decided to take the babies for a walk at the mall (she was born in the winter). Her father had not quite ‘gotten’ his responsibilities yet and complained the entire time. Mom, knowing that her words would get nowhere, decided that actions would speak louder than words. She asked him to hold onto the stroller and noticing a bus coming, she left him (with the two babies), ran for the bus and went home. Sometimes mama’s gotta pull out all the stops to get her point across. We might see similar unconventional stunts like this at the full moon lunar eclipse.

Venus is opposite the moon and holding hands with the sun. The Sun is that masculine energy and when you block him, like the earth is doing, he can come across pretty strong. But at this eclipse Venus rubs off on him, softening him and putting him under her spell. Remember the influence that the royal mistresses had on the kings of the world. He may be doing all the acting, but she is behind the scenes strongly influencing. Venus is squaring Pluto, so she might be acting obsessive and using her wiles in a negative way. She’ll also get a boost from Mars and Jupiter, making her a little over confident and the center of attention. But if she is wearing her skirt too short, not because it’s how she really dresses, but because she knows it will help her get her way.  Clan Mother (moon) on the other side will sort her out because the Moon also has Mars and Jupiter in her wings. The Moon’s message at this eclipse – use your power both masculine and feminine, appropriately.

Mercury will then slip back into Libra on the 10th, and will cause relationship communication mess ups for in the latter part of October. Initially the sun will sextile Jupiter allowing us to let things fly things off our shoulders fairly easy. But then on the 11th Venus will oppose Uranus.  You might find yourself distracted with the hookup app tinder. Great if you’re single. If you’re not, question what needs are not being met. If it’s just a communication mess up, wait until Oct 25th when Mercury goes direct again. Things could  clear up by then. If you feel that that’s not the case, Mars’ sextile the north node will help to point your compass in the right direction. It may show up as that door of opportunity that keeps presenting itself. Even if we get off track in our lives, there is usually a period of time when we have many outs.  If a new direction does appear, the sun conjunct on the north node on the 12th will swing that door wide open. Just like in the movie Adjustment Bureau, it will appear like a door or shining light. If you do see it appear, don’t be afraid to move forward out of a sense of duty to your former life or fear that you’re making the wrong move. Go into the light, find your purpose, and find your love.  Venus will sextile Jupiter on the 14th, connecting us with our hearts desire. She will also conjunct the north node, so the door leading to our passion will be wide open for at least a couple of days.

One word of caution though. If the doors that open look like brand new opportunities, one that you have never seen before, give it a tentative ‘yes’. The reason is mercury is still in retrograde. Let me refresh your memory about what mercury retrogrades are all about. They are times for going forward with anything that starts with a “re”. Re-read, review, reinstall, restructure, renew but it’s not an ideal time to start anything new.  With that said, if the door is a job, a love or any other opportunity presented to you in the past you have the green light.

During the retrograde, Mercury will coming into contact with the sun and will help us reassess the way we are presenting ourselves. Next, it comes into contact with Mars bringing about a review of the progress we are making. It then touches Venus and may signal the return of a love – Now may be your second chance. When Mercury touches Jupiter, an opportunity may re-appear. And when it conjuncts the North node, a second chance to connect with the right people may re-surface.  Again, if any of these opportunities are completely new, you may not have all the info and things may change once we get into November. The other reason to stall is we also have an upcoming solar eclipse. Eclipses are not good times to take initiative. Things will happen on their own accord, pushing us in a certain direction. If you are responding to events, most certainly do what you must do. But it will not be until November when the dust settles and we will really understand what happened in October.

The solar eclipse will be at 0 degrees Scorpio on October 23rd. A solar eclipse happens when the moon gets in the way of the sun, blocking out its light from the perspective of the Earth. Pallas and Venus will also line up with the Sun and Moon creating a powerful solar eclipse which will focus on truth and transformative love. Secrets may come to light now or some other form of a ‘big reveal’. Things which have eluded you for some time will start to make sense as Pallas helps us to see the big picture.

Mercury will return to its direct motion on Oct 25th. The next day the Sun and Venus will conjunct Pallas exactly on the 26th.  So much will become clear; and now with the eclipses and the retrograde behind us we will be able to make informed decisions.  Mars enters Capricorn on the 26th as well.   We will be able to put our plans into action in a methodical manner and with a strong sense of commitment.

At the end of the month Venus is trine Neptune on the 27th.  The storm has passed and it’s now a great time to enjoy a little vacation. If you can’t get away to a beach, have a stay-cation or even an amazing movie will provide the much needed escape. Vacations are important as they help us to engage our mind in a different way. Have ever lost your train of thought and then pushed yourself to remember, only to come up blank. Then, only when you let go – start having fun or focus on something else – that thought or insight floated to the surface again. If so, then you will know how much having a break is important. Also, if we take that break, we can better take advantage of the energy on the 28th when the Sun will trine Neptune. With a now rested mind, we will have an unusual ability to tap into our intuition. It will give us confidence that we’re on the right track and connecting with the right people when Mercury – now in a forward motion – conjuncts the North Node again on the 29th .

Read what’s in store for your sign:

During the last Mercury retrograde, a friend of mine said to me, “Can we all stop blaming Mercury retrograde for everything?” She said this because it seemed to be the new excuse for doing nothing or not taking responsibility for our actions. Mercury retrograde is not a time to blame all mess-ups on a planet. It’s a time to slow down, take our time and apply the “re” to our activities. So this month I wanted to focus the sign horoscopes on Mercury retrograde and what each sign should slow down with.  (the eclipses will be happening in the same houses too).

Aries:  Mess up can happen this month with your shared resources. Examples may include; one didn’t know the other was paying a bill and you pay it twice. Or you both use the credit card not realizing that the other has used it and you find yourself embarrassed with a declined payment. Pay attention to the details and review these areas of your life. This means you will need to say, check out, say again, repeat back to the person and check again to make sure you have made yourself understood in your relationships.  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is review and repeat.

Taurus: Communications will get intense in your personal relationships. Wires will get crossed and misunderstanding may cause you to want to escape in your work. But then confusion will only shift to workplace misunderstandings. Recheck and double check your work.  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde are react (positively) and retract

Gemini: Mercury retrograde may start out with something like an unintended reply-all email. Whatever you say may get you in trouble as it reaches your unintended recipients. Later in the month you may find yourself facing a creativity block. Maybe its writers block or a feeling of lack of ideas. Now is the time to go back over your creations not just for modification but also for inspiration.  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is review and recreate.

Cancer:  Mercury retrograde may bring back a past love causing you to review your commitments. Later in the month mercury will disrupt things on the home front. Your family relationships may need a makeover. Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is re-attract and re-attach.

Leo: Mercury retrograde may bring up something on the home front causing a need for a renovation. Maybe this creates a lot of garbage or something else unsightly for your neighbors. Later in the month Mercury retrograde will have you needing to mend fences. Your re words for this Mercury retrograde are renovate and recycle.

Virgo: Watch out for blown car tires or power surges this month. Plus, Mercury retrograde could see you messing up something with your budget or finances. Spend some time checking in with your plan and make adjustments as needed – using what you already have.  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde are redirect and redistribute.

Libra: Mercury is retrograde in your financial sector.  An unexpected expense may appear. Later in the month you might feel the need to do a little hustling to make that money back. Make sure you check how you’re coming across to others. Desperation does not sell. Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is re-box and re-brand.

Scorpio: Mercury retrograde starts out in Scorpio, your home sign. Your words are known to sting, but now they might also be misunderstood. Later in the month Mercury gives you a chance to step back and meditate on how you have been presenting yourself. Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is re-evaluate and recharge.

Sagittarius: Stuff floating around in your unconscious is now causing you to behave in ways that maybe you can’t explain. You’ll need to spend some time journaling or using some other method to get it out. Later in the month you may need to reflect on your friendships. Though wires can get crossed in our friendships now, have patience because our friends are the ones who will reflect back to us our shortcomings, in loving ways. Your re words for this Mercury retrograde is regenerate and relate.

Capricorn: Mercury retrograde will have you taking a look at your hopes and dreams. Later in the month this might also include your career.  Is your work and career fulfilling your purpose?  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde are remake and re-purpose.

Aquarius: You might trip and fall this month during Mercury retrograde. If you do, it may be quite the spectacle. One in which you may feel the need to regain your composure in some way. Later in the month your faith will be tested and Mercury will call on you to reconnect with your advisors and guides.  Your re words for this Mercury retrograde are re-orchestrate and re-orientate.

Pisces: Classically during this Mercury retrograde, travel may not be a great idea. If you do decide to take a road trip or get on a plane, make extra copies of all your documents and back up your directions. If Mercury decides to get you lost however, it may lead to a transformation within. Sometimes you need to get lost to find yourself. Your re words are re-saddle and re-pace (as in re-pace your steps).

September 2014 Horoscope

Fear and love… aren’t they a paradox! In the words of Morchebba, “fear can stop you loving… love can stop your fear… but it’s not always that clear.” September starts with Mercury moving into Libra. Talk of love and relationships will be steep in our conversations for the next couple of weeks or so. Venus moves into Virgo on September 5th bringing out our practicality in both relationships and our finances. Should I love? Should I spend? Is this practical? But are these questions cloaked in fear?

Mercury and Pallas are moving through Libra in September. They come up against the slow moving planets, Pluto and Uranus, and square off against Juno. Relationships are changing and the tension is creating an ability to see new patterns and communicate in new ways. Though things are tense, Libra gives the ability to see all sides of a situation. Libra will push for fairness though, so don’t be surprised if there are a few intense conversations during the first couple of weeks of Sept. On September 6th, Chiron, the wounded healer, will be trine both Vesta and Juno, forming a grand trine. A grand trine is just what it sounds like: a big triangle in the sky formed by the planets wherein there are 120o between each other. So much healing (Chiron) is been happeningin our passions (Vesta), and committed relationships (Juno); by the end of the month, we will be feeling more committed to a new way of being in relationships.

At the beginning of September, the Sun and Venus are moving through Virgo . As such, they’ll be forming nice aspects to Juno, Pallas, and Mercury. We’re using that Virgo energy to clear away the clutter. We are beautifying and organizing and, as we work, things are becoming crystal clear. You may have some aha! moments and you might even realize that you knew all of this before, but there is something different about it now. It’s a deeper understanding. For example, maybe you knew that you always attracted men like your father in relationships, but a whole new understanding about that dynamic emerges.

On Sept 7th, the Sun is opposite Chiron and old wounds may re-emerge. Uranus will also square Juno on the same day. Juno is in Cancer and has an emotional need for closeness. When she doesn’t get her needs met, she can be clingy, bitchy, and moody – and, in a square to Uranus, it might come out in extreme emotions! It could also show up in the exact opposite way with a compete and total withdrawal of emotion.

There is always one planetary aspect that leads to a doorway through difficult situations. This September, that aspect is Jupiter sextile Pallas. Have you ever seen the painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat? It’s a pointillist painting. Pointillism, a style of art, uses dots. The painting is in the Chicago Art institute and if you’ve never seen it, it’s a must see. Stand close and all you see are perfectly round, coloured dots, but stand far away and you see a masterpiece. One may ask themselves:how did he know where to put the dot and what colour to choose? It’s a scene that brings out not just the sublime but also the multidimensional aspect. This is what the energy of Jupiter and Pallas will be like at this time. Getting close will help you see the patterns and pixels of the problem. But then stand back. It will help you to see the big picture and something much more than you could ever expect will emerge.

The culmination of all of this will come the next day on the full moon. The Moon will be full in Pisces and conjunct Chiron. When the Moon is full, the Sun is in opposition to it. Nothing obscures the sun’s reflection on the surface of the moon. It’s why we see the moon as big and glowing. The Sun in this aspect represents an area that will need to be integrated. The Sun will be sextile Juno so we can integrate relationships with our sense of being. It will also be sextile Vesta so our passions can also be included. The Sun at the full moon is at the Sabian symbol representing ‘a volcano erupting’. Additionally, Uranus is throwing some stubbornness into the whole energy pattern. As the Sun’s lava at the full moon hits the Moon and Chiron in water, it might be quiescent or highly explosive. If, however, there are massive eruptions, they will be incredibly relieving. As the lava spills over and rolls through the hills and valleys the next day, we may become obsessed with certain ideas. We may try to force them on others, but introspection is a better way to use the energy. If there is anything that needs to be released, Pluto in a trine to Ceres the same day will help us with the process of letting go.

Mercury still in Libra will sextile Jupiter in Leo on the Sept 10th. This positioning gives us a chance to envision our hopes and dreams in greater detail. In the words of Shakespeare, “all the world’s a stage.” It’s a sonnet with illusion and disillusion both of which can creep in on the same day as Venus is opposite Neptune. Look instead for inspiration…. you do get to create it (life, that is) as you like it! On Sept. 11th, Mercury will conjunct Pallas and new ideas might spark up. You may have conversations and mid-sentence realise it’s in fact an ‘ahha!’ moment. It’s a good idea to talk to as many people as possible right now – get your ideas out. This will help to solidify any learning that has been happening in the last little while. The Sun is sextile Saturn the same day, so you may even make a commitment to a particular path and, as you commit to that path, you start to understand yourself more and feel more comfortable within.

Learning about yourself doesn’t just happen. There are four stages of learning, the first of which is unconsciously incompetent. Then consciously incompetent, consciously competent, unconsciously competent. Depending on your level of development and consciousness, you will handle the energy on Sept 13th differently. Mars will move into Sagittarius on that day and everyone will be feeling restlessness to one degree or another. Risk taking, interest in pursuing ideas and sharing them will increase. Mercury will oppose Uranus on the same day, so insights can come to us quickly. We might also have foot in mouth syndrome. This is where our level of consciousness and skill will come in. Uranus and Pluto are still dancing in a close square with one another so any aspect to these guys is likely to bring about drama. If you find yourself grasping to take back words that are floating out of your mouth, you may need to work a little more on your consciousness raising.

Also on the 13th, Saturn will conjunct Vesta. This positioning provides immense intensity to the energy of Saturn in Scorpio and we might be feeling a strong sense of responsibility and restriction with respect to our passions. Saturn trine Juno will help us to commit to them. This move is not without a great deal of emotion – Jupiter is square to Ceres and we might find ourselves trying to manage our large emotions with one oral fixation or another (smoking or eating). Practicing EFT (emotional freedom technique) or CBT (cognitive behaviour technique) is a better way to manage large emotions.

As soon as we commit to this new direction, some restructuring may be needed. Venus trine Pluto and sextile Saturn this month will help with that adjustment. We are building something that will endure. Saturn in Scorpio has a healthy skepticism and lends some strategy to the endeavor. It also helps to set up good financial boundaries and structures, ensuring the enduring.

Sept 17th may be a day of information overload. Uranus will oppose Pallas and information might get scrambled which might be a good thing if we are forging forward with new ideas and leading new unconventional paths. It might be a chance to use that EFT to permanently change our neural pathways. This change is great if we have been stuck in old patterns that are holding us back. Mercury conjunct the North Node on the same day promises a day of embarking on new and positive paths. We may however need to do some weeding to get rid of relationships that no longer serve us. Venus opposite Chiron will help us to do so. It’s important to listen without interrupting when we are having those relationship conversations as Mercury squares Juno that day as well. We might find ourselves fighting to get our point across and you want to make sure that any decisions about friends and partners are made with clear understandings, not just assumptions. In the midst of all of this, we also need to think about the children. The healing continues when Chiron sextiles Ceres on the 19th. One thing that children like is stability. The combination of Venus sextile Saturn will provide some stability and good judgment will help with that healing process by the 21st.

Mar is Square to Neptune on Sept 21st. It’s a bit of a sketchy transit, one where we might feel tired. So much change has been going on that I wouldn’t be surprised if the expression of this transit is just pure and simple exhaustion. It’s definitely not a day to start new endeavours. There is another reason to take a pause on the 21st. Pluto goes direct on Sept 22nd and with that forward motion increases the transformation. Pluto is in Capricorn, changing the structures of our system. All institutions’ have been feeling it, including government, business, education, and even the institution of marriage. The Sun will enter Libra on the same day, so the energy will move toward finding a balance in our lives.

The new moon on the 24th is in Libra and widely conjunct Venus. This new moon will be a good time to set intention in our relationship. Sept. has provided us with so much assessment of our relationships and commitments that we will now know exactly how to phrase our intentions. They will be so clear that the universe will have no confusion about bringing them into being. Venus is in a sextile to Juno and Vesta . We now have a chance to integrate the feminine (Venus) and our work and passions (Vesta) with our identity as lovers and partners (Juno) – and do so without conflict. Wow! That’s good news. Say good bye to frazzled Superwoman. Jupiter trine Uranus will get us out of our old thinking rut, pushing us into new and inventive ways of living.

Read what’s in store for each sign:

Aries: Maybe you’ve been expecting your hubby to be provider. Isthat a natural role? Or an imposed one? This month you will seek new ways to ensure secure foundations without society’s imposed rules! Shared resources, the way they come about, and how they are valued/shared will be a part of the conversation.

Taurus: Do you feel like you’re always trying to pull teeth to have a conversation in your relationship? Your way of relating will be challenged this month. Confrontations are on par for the course. You might be saying good-bye to anything or anyone that doesn’t work. Check your communication style first to make sure that you’re coming across in ways that are engaging rather than dismissive.

Gemini: Do you need to have something that only you own to give yourself value in your relationships? If you have been feeling a lot of demands without recognition, assess how well you have been holding and tooting your own horn. If you are letting others take credit for your work or your contribution, it’s time to stop. If it’s a team effort, make sure your name shows up in the credits – and not in small print.

Cancer: Sometimes in order to express yourself fully, you need to be seen. This month you will realize how having someone in your corner cheering you on is important to your identity. That person could be your partner or it could be supportive kids. Conflicts that arise in these areas are smoothed out successfully with a little effort. You realize that you don’t need to lose yourself, but instead can find yourself through your important relationships. They just need to be the right ones.

Leo: You may be dealing with some Karmic debt in your relationships right now. You might be dealing with dependencies that are reminiscent of childhood matters. Did you have role reversal with your parents? Power dynamics may be smoothed out and brought to balance. It’s likely to be one that’s been traveling through your lineage – and you have the opportunity to correct it once and for all. You may benefit from the help of a therapist or even a spiritual teacher.

Virgo: Is your partner and lover also your friend? This is what you need right now. Someone to whom you can also talk. Someone who, when the sparks dies down for a while, is still someone you like being around. You are redefining what a partner means to you and healing how you relate to, or maybe even how you chose, partners. The biggest correction happens in the area of communication. You are starting to realize that there is a different way to speak and listen and it’s making you reconsider your communication style.

Libra: You might be feeling a little married to your career at the moment. Maybe you are working hard to make a go of something – maybe it’s a business or a new career. This month, you’re learning the meaning of “work smart, not hard.” It’s a lesson that’s not easy for you. You may be looking skeptically at books like The 4-Hour Work Week. Maybe you need to clear out old value systems, ones that say that money only comes if you work hard.

Scorpio: Right now you may be realizing a need for a spiritual/philosophical connection in your relationships. The craving for deeper meaning will help to push you toward a deeper contemplation and introspection. Connect with your inner child to understand. Don’t be afraid to have full out conversations to find out what you inner little one needs. Deeper and more spiritual connections with others are possible only when you have learned to have a deeper connection with yourself.

Sagittarius: You are being challenged to heal your trust issues. Perhaps they stem from your childhood. Say the mantra (connected to the root chakra): “I have everything I need, all of my needs are met” as you walk through your day. Notice what happens when you are connected to the mantra. There is some unconscious clutter that can emerge right now to allow you to better trust both yourself and others.

Capricorn: You can’t deny your hopes and dreams any longer. You’re gonna need to speak up. You may not be steady on your feet yet in terms of yourself expression. Taking a course or working with a speech coach can work wonders – wonders from which your relationships will really benefit. You’ll start to realize that you can have it all. All you have to do is speak up and express your needs and feelings.

Aquarius: You have been juggling all the balls in the relationship. You’re feeling like you need a little more balance in the sharing of responsibilities. Actually, you might be doing quite well now in your career and haven’t adjusted to the idea that you can hire help. The idea of delegating might feel unbalancing and maybe even too expensive. Now is the time to do a cost benefit analysis and to work with your money issues related to abundance and living well.

Pisces: Joint parenting brings about a sense of fulfillment for you this month and it is also a source of healing. As you express yourself within this joint relationship, it helps to free up your sense of individuality. You’re healing your beliefs around who you are and who you need to be. What you contribute and how you’re able to give and receive, both from your children and from your co-parent, may shift for the better. You may find that familial conflicts are considerably lessened by the end of the month.

My lucky night… the astrology of how others can bring out your luck!

22308578_sI was having a lucky night – and I mean real luck. It was so lucky that I had to stop and ask, “What’s going on here?”

The trick to my luckiness…

I wasn’t alone. I was out with one of my good friends and from the minute we came into proximity with each other, the luck began. Together we created magic, alchemy, and wealth!

Synastry is the study in astrology of the connection of planets between people. Most of the time people interested in synastry want to know about their romantic partnerships. They want to know how it will work out, if they are good for one another, and how they complement one another. In reality, you can look at the synastry between just about any relationship – Parent/child, boss/employee, client/company, friend/friend, etc. The process takes each person’s birth chart and finds connection of the planets between the two which shows how you relate to one another. When there are planets transiting or making aspects to one’s chart, they also make an aspect to the other person’s chart. This detail is helpful in being able to see what will occur in those relationships throughout time.

I knew there was a chance my connection with my friend could be a lucky one. A year or so ago, noticing this connection, I tried to invoke this luck. I had theorized that if we gambled during a Venus trine transit to our lucky point, we might win big. But for this to happen, we needed to work together. We needed the combined magic of our planets. We hatched a plan to play blackjack. We watched the movie “21” and did drills at lunch time to practice counting cards. Then we practiced with her boyfriend as the dealer. I imagined us in a scene right out of American Hustle.

Our next step was to frequent the local casino. The only time I had ever played black jack was a couple of years previous in a Nepalese casino. I assumed it was all the same. We were soon disappointed when we discovered that the black jack tables were not tables – they were digital machine. In fact, there were no nearby casinos with actual black jack dealers. Our hustle was killed.

We had a second hustle – darts! We frequented a local bar to play against some of the regulars. I soon discovered that I needed at least 5 drinks to get a bulls eye. It then dawned on me that my winnings might end up back at the bar.

The day of the transit arrived…

And it passed. My friend had a date with her boyfriend – I guess it was a better use of the Venus trine to her Pluto transit.

Soon we forgot about our combined potential for magic. Time passed and, then without warning, lady luck smiled on us again.

It was Saturday night and the luck just kept coming so I started to suspect – could it be? Sure enough, Venus was squaring that magical combined point.

With friends, lovers, and other significant relationships we usually have many planetary (synastry) connections. Many of those connections are good and they tell you why you get along. Some are not so good and they will speak of the friction between you. In the chart between my friend and I, this point was good. The connection in question was a conjunction between Jupiter (in my 8th house) and Pluto (in her 1st house).

When Pluto and Jupiter come together, they expand and wield power. They speaks of wealth, playing big, expanding luck, and taking risks. Two people with these planets in conjunction, sextile, or trine create a dynamic duo. One that wields power, creates wealth, and has a positive transformative effect . If the two planets (Pluto and Jupiter) were in a square or an opposition, we might find ourselves in a power struggle. We might try to stuff faith down each other’s neck or face moral superiority over one another. Jealousy and obsession might also thrive. But with positive connections, these two energies work together.

So this is what we had: a Pluto/Jupiter conjunction. Then Venus came along and squared it. All we needed to do was hang out and the luck started to roll in!

We decided that were going to go to The Taste of The Danforth, but we’re not going to drive. Instead we took the subway. Someone getting off the subway had a day pass, good for two people for unlimited travel. Stopping us on the way to the entrance, they asked if we would like it…. A fare savings of $12. Nice! We accepted.

2014-08-15-11.25.35We arrived at the Taste of the Danforth about 35 minutes later. Getting off the subway and onto the blocked off festival streets, we realized that it wasn’t really our thing. There were food booths lined up down both sides of the streets with all kinds of food, mostly Greek. The lines were long and there was nowhere to sit down and eat. Simply put, the street curb did not appeal to us. The restaurants were the same. Lines of people at the top restaurants told us we would have a long wait but all we wanted was a drink and space from the crowds. We wanted to sit down to eat with a knife and a fork. We stood at the back of one of the lines trying to judge how long we would have to wait. Suddenly the hostess looked past everyone in line and motioned at me to ask if it was for two (we were a fair distance away). The next thing we knew, we bypassed the line. On the way, I heard someone say something about being there first and the hostess lied, saying, “Actually, they were.”

Wow! I didn’t complain, but I did feel a little guilty after looking at the menu only to realize that it wasn’t what we wanted. Even though we had been treated like royalty, we decided to leave.

Moving on, we found the perfect restaurant. I wanted a grilled calamari salad – they had it. My friend wanted a stuffed pita. They had a booth in front of the restaurant with serving what she wanted. The only problem? No outside food was allowed inside… even if it was their own outside food. That didn’t stop us. My friend (the Pluto one) begged and begged until she got her way. Once we were seated, the entire staff seemed bewitched. I flattered the waiter who asked me to guess his age. I said 39,but he was 51. He brought us two pieces of free baklava smothered in honey and whip cream. Next a waiter, one who wasn’t even waiting on us, bought me a glass of red wine.

We also had our own separate expressions of the transit. Venus square to my Jupiter expands the allure of Venus – love and attractiveness. As we walked the festival after our meal, I received several comments from men on my beauty and my sexiness.

Venus square to my friend’s Pluto in her chart brought out a different variety of attractiveness: one with a little bit of obsession and possessiveness (Pluto). I wasn’t surprised when a man approached her and said, “I’ve been watching you..” For you men reading this – bad line! Creepy bad line!

All and all, it was a lucky night. Back on the subway, again we stuck out like sore thumbs. Though it was packed, two thuggish men cleared space for us to sit down. It was our final luck of the night!

I think you know what I am doing… Yup, I’m pulling up the charts and mapping out our next brush with luck!

Maybe next time, we’ll hit the casinos!
