Horoscope: April 23 – 29, 2018

April 23 – 29

Passion and Inner Significance

What to expect: Finding inner meaning
What to watch out for: Offending our partnerships
What will it affect? Work, passions, values, relationships

On April 24th, the Sun trines Vesta and sparks our passion! We are looking for what gives us meaning plus stability and authority. Venus will go into Gemini and make a sextile to Chiron. This starts the discussion in our partnerships and out will come all the things we are dissatisfied with, including the areas where we lack passion and meaning. Venus in Gemini values conversation, exchange of ideas and debate. It is extremely curious and its curiosity often leads the Venus in Gemini into trouble when it comes to partnerships. When Venus makes a sextile to Chiron the same day, we are faced with questions about our loyalty. The lyrics of the Tegan and Sara song “I’m not unfaithful, but I’ll stray” comes to mind. But it’s not just love relationships. It’s any partnership. The real question is, are we giving each other enough space? Do we need others to give us meaning and fill our cup or do we find our own inner significance? Chiron in Aries wants us to start valuing the independent individual and make us realize that having curiosity and outside interests don’t always spell out disloyalty to our partnerships.

Why? Sun Trine Transiting Vesta, Venus Entering Gemini, Venus Sextile Transiting Chiron

Deep Inner Work!

What to expect: Transformation
What to watch out for: Holding on to the past
What will it affect? Learning, communication, the past, power

Between April 23rd and 26th, Mars meets up with Pluto, which has recently gone retrograde. The two make a sextile to Jupiter which is also retrograde.

This is amazing energy, however, the retrograde energy of this connection turns the energy inward. In this particular aspect with Jupiter in Scorpio and Mars and Pluto in Capricorn, we are reflecting on our ambition, drive and need for power. How do we use power? Is it used for a good cause and in good ways or is it used inappropriately, even if it is inadvertently inappropriate? This energy is a good time for working with coaches, counsellors, and self-help books to help us understand our inner workings. This is also a good time for checking out your astrology chart. Astrology is one of the best tools for going inward and examining our inner landscape. Jung did it, as Bernadette Brady recently published book on Carl Jung outlines in The Astrological World of Jung’s Liber Novus.

Caution: Mercury is still in its shadow period and covering old ground. We’ve been here before just weeks earlier. It will trine Ceres and the North Node in Leo between April 25th and 27th, making us nostalgic and longing for the days of old. However our inner journey may not be a completely smooth road. On April 25th, Mercury will square Saturn bringing us down a bit. We may come across as negative and skeptical. We are being asked to let go of the so called “glory days.” In fact we may have rose coloured glasses as Neptune also makes a square to Pallas. All we may see is the security we had and the stability it offered. But was that really true? Was it ever really there? Facing the truth can help us move past our negative thinking. Time to move on!

Why? Mars Sextile Jupiter, Mars Conjunction Pluto, Mercury Square Saturn, Mercury Trine Ceres, Neptune Square Pallas, Mercury Trine North Node

Full Moon in Scorpio

What to expect: Powerful connections
What to watch out for: Abuse of power
What will it affect? Relationships, community, use of power, direction

The Full Moon is on April 29th in Scorpio. The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is “A fellowship supper reawakens unforgettable inner ties.” The Full Moon puts the focus on community. More specifically it puts the focus on exclusive community or in some cases “secret society.” One of the more recent secret and interesting societies is nicknamed Circada 3301. It’s an internet society based around a puzzles and alternate reality games. It’s said to be linked to cryptocurrency and speculated to be founded to recruit intelligent code breaker types. This fits with the energy of this Full Moon. It speaks of power, money, emotional intensity, transformation, extremes and the secrets or mysteries of life. The Full Moon squares the nodes in Leo/Aquarius, so will bring about a new direction or possibly a call to a mission “if you so chose to accept.” Many of us feel called, but back down when asked to step into our leadership or to claim our inner strength. Face this Full Moon like a child. Remember how your innocence and lack of experience allowed you to take risks and to believe you could do anything? We are being asked to approach this full moon with that kind of childlike courage. Thankfully, we get some help from Saturn, now retrograde in Capricorn. It’s making a trine to the Sun and sextile to the Moon. This helps to ground our decisions in common sense. Therefore even if we approach our decisions with childlike courage, we skip any childlike stupidity, which promises to keep us out of any childlike trouble! The Full Moon is a time of culmination and the link to Saturn also helps us with the required discipline to complete tasks and bring us to the next level.

There is, however, one tricky energy pattern at the Full Moon. Chiron makes one of its first aspects since its arrival in Aries last week. It will conjunct Juno the marriage asteroid. Earlier in the week it connected with Venus for similar relationship energy. We are in the early days of Chiron in Aries, and its energy may well show up as a hurtful situation. For example, our partner’s criticisms can paralyze us as they call up similar old inner wounds, or they can send us into battle as we try to defend who we are. However, combined with the energy of the Full Moon, we may find that this angry and hurtful energy is needed to help us find our truth and direction. We are challenged to have the courage to be who we are in our relationships, without hurting or destroying them.

Why? Full Moon at 9°Scorpio 38′, Sun Trine Saturn, Chiron Conjunction Juno

Horoscope: April 16 – 22, 2018

April 16 – 22

Temptations with Money

What to expect: Tests of restraint
What to watch out for: Excessiveness
What will it affect? Money, shared resources, relationships, budgets.

On April 16 and 17th, be careful with your cash and your joint holdings. There are a couple of things happening that can really go either way. Venus, a planet associated with money, is in the money sign of Taurus. Taurus loves security and material possessions. Venus in Taurus makes an opposition to Jupiter which is also in a money sign. Jupiter is in Scorpio, the sign about shared everything, including shared resources. The problem is that when these two come into an opposition, they tend to go overboard. Jupiter expands anything it touches, so it can expand our resources or it can expand our debt. The later is more likely as the energy also causes us to lack discipline and to be excessive. Venus will also trine Pluto which can send us towards transformative experiences.

At the same time, Saturn will go retrograde. For business, Saturn retrograde has an interesting energy. Normally Saturn is the CFO, handling the budgets and bottom lines. In the retrograde motion, Saturn’s reigns loosen up a bit.

This is a time where we would be well advised to learn restraint. In fact, it may be testing our restraint.

Why? Venus Opposition Jupiter, Venus Trine Pluto, Saturn Stationary

Chiron in Aries

What to expect: Pain and Healing
What to watch out for: Social movements
What will it affect? Freedom, self-expression, any repressed groups

Those of the Chiron in Aries generation know this energy well. Chiron was last in Aries in 1968 – 1977. Before that Chiron was in Aries in 1918 – 1927. Both of these times were associated with wounds of freedom and self expression! In the 1920’s, the theme was freedom of expression for women. Think short flapper dress, cigarettes and prohibition. Think of Mae West’s famus quote, “When I’m good I’m very, very good, but when I’m bad, I’m better” and Josephine Baker’s “I wasn’t really naked. I simply didn’t have any clothes on.” Then in 1968 – 1977 the theme was wounds freedom and self expression; psychedelics, peace, love and Vietnam. The culture, the style and the attitudes all spoke of that Aries notion of “who am I.” Aries energy brings conflict, passion, bravery and the kind of leadership that comes from taking a stand or making a statement for the sake of being who you are.

We enter into this energy again as Chiron moves into Aries on April 17th. This time Chiron will be in Aries until 2027. It’s a societal energy that contains hurt, healing and expression from those who feel the wounds of “who am I.” During both previous Chiron in Aries time periods, women’s movements made advances and we’ll likely see this again. Aries represents pioneering, war, the entrepreneur, beginnings, self expression, exploration. We may see wounds and a response to the wounds in any of these areas.

Why? Chiron Entering Aries

Setting Projects on the Right Track

What to expect: New Directions
What to watch out for: Too much focus
What will it affect? Money, strategy, partnerships

On April 18th , the Sun will make its exact conjunction with Uranus, just before moving into Taurus on the 19th. We may take things in a surprising direction while all this energy is in Aries, but once the Sun moves into Taurus, it will be hard to change directions. Whatever surprising turns we take, we’ll remain committed to it. It can be a productive time while the Sun is in Taurus. We can be focused and methodical which will help us to get things done.

On the 18th , Pallas will also sextile the North Node, which will help us see the big picture and build strategy that moves us into the right direction.

On the 22nd, Venus makes a sextile to Juno currently in Pisces. Juno in Pisces helps us to achieve a relationship with the divine. As Venus makes its sextile to Juno, we can partner with someone, but the project ends up feeling like something bigger than ourselves. It is as though the energy of the divine may be working through that partnership. Take advantage of this energy if you would like to move your projects ahead in partnership. On the same day, Pluto goes retrograde. In the initial stages while the Sun in in Taurus, we may resist the transformation that wants to happen. Pluto will be going back over previous ground and will have as its mission to revamp and revitalize the structures we had previously put in place.

Why? Sun Conjunction Uranus, Sun Entering Taurus, Pallas Sextile North Node, Venus Sextile Juno, Pluto retrograde

Horoscope: April 9- April 15, 2018

April 9 – 15th

Redefining Leadership

What to expect: Review of leadership
What to watch out for: Power plays
What will it affect? Communication, strategy, children, nurturance needs

In John Gerzema’s book and TEDx Talk on The Athena Doctrine, he talks of the power of feminine values in leadership strategy. Included are values like nurturing, collaboration, reasonableness and empathy. As Mercury sextiles Pallas at the beginning of the week, we draw into our strategy a review of these types of feminine values within our leadership. Pallas also makes a sextile to Ceres in Leo and the wisdom of our children and their need for care come to the fore. With Mercury retrograding in Aries and making a trine to Ceres, the children’s needs are brought into the conversation. Ceres is still very close to the North Node in Leo and has been drawing in voices of youth in leadership. Their voices help us to do a major review of how we see ourselves, our personal freedom and our personal power.

This review is not without its challenges. The first challenge early this week is from Venus, whose values are now grounded in predictable, stubborn and at times inflexible Taurus, squaring the Nodes in Leo and Aquarius. Those values may be resistant to change and new leadership. The resistance may cause us to realize that it might be time to walk away from some relationships. The second challenge comes from the Sun in Aries, a sign that values freedom and independence, squaring Pluto in Capricorn. This creates a dynamic where the traditional establishment who may not like this expression of our freedom and personal power might flex its muscle to maintain power and control.

Why? Mercury Trine Ceres, Mercury Sextile Pallas, Pallas Sextile Ceres, Venus Square North Node, Sun Square Pluto

More than Ourselves

What to expect: Masculine/Feminine healing
What to watch out for: Opportunities for forgiveness
What will it affect? Relationships, spirituality, creativity, giving

Between April 10th and 14th, get ready to love and give! It’s all about service, generosity and creativity. It’s the kind of creativity that comes from being more than ourselves. First Mars and Venus move into a trine, bringing together the masculine and feminine. This is always a nice energy, usually generating fun, flirtation and relationship. But we have something more happening. Mars and Venus will together sextile Neptune causing our relationships to reach for the divine. In practices such as tantric sex, two come together and their synthesis creates a unity that brings them in touch with God. This astrological energy is much like the practice of Tantra. We join together and our togetherness creates a loving synergy. A spiritual union is achieved and from that spiritual union, the sparks of creativity, ready to love and give reaches out and is channeled into other outlets. Just what outlet do we send our love into? Let your creativity and passion carry you to the right project, event, charity or purpose. Venus and Mars are in earth signs and bring in a grounding and enduring energy to both our partnerships and creative outlets.

In another mini Grand Trine happening at the same time, Jupiter and Juno will trine and both will sextile Pluto. Jupiter has been traveling in Scorpio and has been educating us on the sexual inequalities, the #metoo movement and the abuses that involve power and sex. Jupiter is now retrograde and is going over some of the ground that had been uncovered. As Jupiter makes a trine to Juno, we have a chance to bring wholeness to the relationships between men and women, both on the personal and societal levels. Both Planets will pull in Pluto for some needed transformation, and eyes can be opened. If we’ve been trying to get through to someone, they may finally “get it” at this time.

Why? Venus Trine Mars, Venus Sextile Neptune, Mars Sextile Neptune, Jupiter Sextile Pluto, Jupiter Trine Juno, Pluto Sextile Juno

New Moon in Aries

What to expect: Renewed opportunity
What to watch out for: Letting it pass
What will it affect? New beginnings

I love the Sabian symbol for this New Moon on April 15th. “Through imagination, a lost opportunity is regained.”

Years ago, before Brexit, when having a British passport gave you access to the European Union and was desired, I had researched if I could get a British passport through my father who, though not British, has a British passport. I came to the conclusion that I could not get it. I’m not a lawyer, but I have an undergraduate degree in Law, which trained me to some extent in how to read legislation. So two years or so after I came to that conclusion, when a friend asked during a long morning walk,  “are you sure?” I decided to go back and look at it again. A funny thing happened. I realized that the Immigration Act was written in a way that only said who was ineligible, not who was eligible! Something went off in my head…. If I’m not ineligible, maybe I’m eligible. I could pay an immigration lawyer $1500 to find out. Or I could pay the $500 fee for the passport and take my chances. I opted to take my chances with less money. A week after sending in my application, I had a passport! At this New Moon, we have the potential for similar breakthroughs giving us an opportunity where one was once thought to be lost! The New Moon will be conjunct Uranus favouring breakthroughs and insights. Is there something that you once wanted and thought was forever lost? Now is the time to dust off the doubt and brainstorm possibilities! The New Moon is making an out of sign trine to Vesta in Capricorn, which helps to ground ideas and structure them for achievement.

Mercury will also go direct the same day. Finally we can move forward! With all this energy in Aries, expect to get propelled forward.

Why? New Moon at 26°Aries, Mercury direct
