Full Moon in Cancer – Jan 6, 2023

The Full Moon on January 6th is at 16 degrees of Cancer. At this full moon, the milk might sour and the coffee may taste off…. Cancer is the emotional sign and is ruled by the moon and something just ain’t right! Emotional stuff related to family, home, the past, your heritage, your people or country, your children or your mother (Cancer is the sign of the mom and caretaker) will come to a head. You might have a good emotionally constructive releasing cry. If you don’t feel like crying, other strong emotions will come up for you to acknowledge.

The moon is opposite Mercury retrograde in Capricorn, which has us reviewing the structures of our lives, or the things we expect to be reliable: our government and how they serve us, other large and old structures, like the bank. You may realize that the personal structures you have in place cause you to feel alone or isolated.

You might be a bit sarcastic at this time, and it’s a sure sign that there is some deep comedic coping going on. Though it may be funny to some, it will be very off-putting to others. It’s your attempt at tricking others to think you are okay. They will, however, respond by holding up a mirror. Use any embarrassment or shame you feel as an access point into your emotions.

The moon is square Chiron in Aries, so there is tension around being yourself and expressing who you are. Personal freedom, bravery, the compulsion to fight, and the need to explore, are all areas where some type of wounding has occurred. These wounds come up at this Full Moon. They may show up as conflicts with our family, our heritage or other cancer-related areas. Chiron is also square to Mercury retrograde, so those wounds also have to do with the review we have been doing around the structures in our lives. Maybe we realize that really doesn’t support us. Or that we have been making ourselves small to fit into structures that don’t fit us.

Something has to give. The moon is also conjunct Pallas. On one hand, this is good, because Pallas in Cancer helps us to see emotional patterns and to tap into our inner wisdom. On the other hand, the opposition to Mercury in Capricorn, can overwhelm our brains; it’s asking us to rewire and it may feel like synaptic overload. Anxiousness, exhaustion and overwhelm can be expected.

The good news is that the Full moon is sextile Uranus in Taurus. So the more we express our uniqueness, and our strange emotions, the more we can release the tension, and the more secure we will feel. This sextile is also giving us an opportunity to channel our emotions into unconventional ways of building emotional security. Maybe you imagine buying a camper van and living the van life fully independent of everyone. You don’t have to do it, but buying that van will take you in the direction your emotions need to go. Or the tension in your life may help you to be inventive in creating other comforts that give you a sense of security. There is a sense of the devil may care attitude that pushes you beyond the boundaries of what is expected of you, helping you to see through to what you really need.

Since this is an emotional moon, the best way to use the energy is not to push away any feelings, but instead to pay attention to them. Use them to cry, create, and strategize. Don’t be too worried if you get overwhelmed, sometimes the emotional purging process is like that. But on the other side is peace!

The Sabian symbol is “The germ grows into knowledge and life” Like a seed getting ready to express itself through growth; it sends DNA messages to create an upward sprout, and then leaves and stems…. It can only do that with nourishment. We are encouraged to nourish our emotions and a similar process will follow.

Happy Full Moon in Cancer!

Sagittarius New Moon – November 2022

The New Moon on November 23rd is at 1 degree of Sagittarius.

Sagittarius is the sign of the seeker of the truth through books, religion, travel, higher learning and the courts.

The ruler of the new moon is Jupiter, which is now stationary in Pisces and about to go direct. When a planet is stationary, it has a lot more power! It’s as if the gas and the breaks are being pressed at the same time and the planet is revving. This gives it a great deal of power. In addition, the planet Jupiter brings expansion. The truth via all the various means is experiencing a push, a pull and a growth…. something has got to give!

Because the moon is in an early degree, it is making a trine to late degree Pisces planets and a square with early degree Pisces planets. It trines Jupiter and Neptune but squares Vesta all in Pisces. This creates a flow of energy with the expansion of the soul, spirituality, and religion but friction with commitments to any form of a true spiritual path.

With Jupiter about to go direct and to change signs within weeks, there may be more uncovered, revealed or understood in terms of our soul’s path. It’s going over old ground to determine what is worth carrying forward.

Hera is conjunct with this New Moon. Hera is the Greek version of Juno (a Roman goddess) and Isis (Egyptian). Astrologically, Hera represents marriage and childbirth. Hera’s husband was never faithful and so she also represents jealousy and score-keeping and an unfaithful spouse. This asteroid brings up the ideas of fairness and equality in relationships. In Sagittarius she has us focused on the truth and even the spiritual meaning of relationships and marriage.

Also, there is a Venus-Mercury conjunction within 10 degrees of the new moon, also in Sagittarius. These two bring us into communication to lovingly discuss and listen to new ideas and concepts with the purpose of searching for the “truth”

The Sabian symbol for the new moon is “The ocean covered with whitecaps”. This symbol speaks to the interplay between the waters and the winds. In general, the moon has an effect on the tides of the ocean, making the water swell or recede. The gravitational pull, the waters of emotion and the spirit of the wind combine at this new moon, rousing a deep stirring of the soul, a swelling of emotion and a call to bring all of it into balance.

New Moons are always a great time to set intentions. This new moon is a great time to set intentions for the spiritual purpose and connections related to love relationships.

Happy New Moon in Sagittarius!!

Virgo New Moon – August 27, 2022

The new moon in August is at 4 degrees of Virgo on Aug 27.

Virgo is about organization, routine and health. In order to do these things it uses categories, lists and the mind to plan. Sometimes guilt plays a part in the Virgo world, often as a motivator…. motivating us to clean up our rooms, go an a diet, plan out our lives. Virgo symbolized as a woman holding a shaft of wheat. Virgo interacts with plants, not so much as a gardener or a farmer, but as a doctor, herbalist, shaman, witch.

The Sabian Symbol for the new moon is a man dreaming of fairies. The sabian symbol speaks of becoming aware of earth elementals. Elementals are messengers and guardians of Gaia. Fairies, for instance are said to protect the forests. They provide help with their magic, giving us medicine in herbs and plants but they can also be tricky and mischievous and can deliver poisons. The elementals remind us that if we respect plants, their virtues can be allies, but if we disconnect or even have distain, they can be cruel and poisonous.

The new moon is squaring mars in Gemini exactly, giving the new moon an assertive, even aggressive edge. Mars in Gemini, the sign of communication can be a bit of a shit talker, may spread gossip, may lie (or misinform/disinform).

The ruler of mars is mercury. In the plant world, mercury is the plant teacher. Once it enters you, it becomes a part of you. Plant teachers can bring you into the depths and bring you back out, purging you of demons or bringing them into your life.

Also mercury is at 1 degree of Libra. The information will also come to us from close relationships, legal proceedings or mediations.

The new moon is also sextile Pallas. Any information we gather can help us to build a strategy for what’s next. The information will be synthesized into a mindmap and a future path.

The asteroid GongGong is at 5 degrees of Pisces, opposite the new moon. GongGong in Chinese mythology was a dragon and ruler of the world. It was responsible for floods and for the changing tilt of the earth. It’s energy is associated with cosmological disaster and environmental change. With this energy opposite the Virgo new moon we can expect metaphorical and actual floods. Dramatic polar shifts representing new directions… this may even mean starting over from scratch.

As always the new moon is a time for seeding new beginnings. Use the new moon energy to set intentions.

Happy New Moon
