What About Me?

What to expect: Strong emotions and judgment
What to watch out for: Projections
What will it affect? Beliefs, inner work, spiritual work

On August 31st – Sept 1st Saturn will form a learning triangle with Vesta and Ceres. It’s called a learning triangle because it’s made up of easy and hard aspects that push and pull and bring new awareness. Saturn has been hard at work, checking out the foundations for our beliefs. But as we take a look at them, sometimes instead of admitting our shortcomings we project and place them on others. If you find yourself critical and judgey, this may be you. We may even go into a “Nobody loves me” pity party. There is an opportunity to connect with our inner child and work through this conflict. Ask yourself – Is all this judgment I feel about me? If it is, what is it about? Systematically work through all of your negative beliefs to assess their origin and you will be able to use this learning triangle energy well.

Wholeness

What to expect: Break-throughs
What to watch out for: getting lost in competition
What will it affect? Injustice, war, discord

Mars will trine Uranus this week on Sept 2nd. One planet that I don’t often write about, mainly because haven’t had much clarity around it, is Eris. Eris will be right beside Uranus.

In mythology, Eris was the Goddess of discord. Allegedly there was a wedding party and everyone was there – Hera, Athena, Aphrodite. Eris however, was not invited! Eris decided to show up anyhow and once there she caught everyone’s attention by throwing an apple between the goddesses, with the words written on it “for the fairest”. The goddesses started to compete. They all felt they should have the apple. So to break the competition, the Prince of Troy, Paris was tasked with deciding who would be the fairest. Hera tried to bribe him with Political Power, Athena, with infinite wisdom, and Aphrodite offered him the most beautiful woman in the world.

He chose the most beautiful woman in the world. This incident and Paris’ choice led to the Trojan War, which of course was lost!

In astrology, Eris is represented of where like Eris in the myth, we feel excluded. While she has been traveling along side Uranus in Aries, she has been stirring up these feelings of exclusion socially. The woman’s march, black lives matter, trans/gender issues, cultural minorities, religious minorities; all excluded from the privilege of the privileged. Everyone wants to matter. But if you say that all lives matter, it like Paris’ decision, leads to war.
What’s the answer? Yes, one does not matter more than the other, yet it’s also insulting to make that claim…. who’s the fairest? Who is the fairest? This is Eris stirring up her discord!

The lessons of Eris, however, in my opinion, are around wholeness. Though extremely tempting and sometimes hard to understand, wholeness is never achieved by looking on the outside. Asking or expecting someone to decide if you are the fairest or not has no winning solution! Wholeness is achieved by connecting with who we truly are within ourselves and defining that for ourselves. Once we shift our inside, so too do we shift our outer circumstances. Who matter’s the most, loses importance. Who’s the fairest becomes a pointless question?
As Mars makes that trine to Uranus and Eris, we can expect some unexpected breakthroughs that can lead to a path of wholeness.

Eclipse Triggers

What to expect: Deepening of the eclipse story
What to watch out for: Snap decisions
What will it affect? Communication, decisions, any area affected by the eclipse

I bet you thought the eclipse was over? Well, yes and no. In astrology, faster-moving planets can sometimes trigger events for big astrological happenings, especially if they occur close to the big astrological happening. In this case, Mercury and Mars will move over the eclipse degree of last week, deepening the story of whatever the eclipse brought. Mercury is still retrograde, so will move over it one more time later in September when it goes direct. But at the moment Mars and Mercury are working in unison as they meet up with each on Sept 2rd – 3rd. A declaration and a move forward is anticipated. But since Mercury is still retrograde and the Sun will be opposite the Neptune, it’s a day that will lack clarity. Any decisions we make will likely be too quick and prone to regret. The problem is that decision can be made seemingly without thinking. It’s a time when you will decide to go forward instead of backing up in this parking spot… only to learn there is a meridian. Or a time when you will let go of the oar, only to realize that it’s not fastened to the boat. Pay attention to thoughtless decisions that end up being big decisions, leaving you dangling on a meridian or up the river without a paddle.

The good news is that later in the month you will have more clarity and can adjust any decision or directions you need to take.

Horoscope: Aug 21 – 27, 2017

Aug 21 – 27

New Moon Solar Eclipse

What to expect: Re-balancing of Leadership
What to watch out for: Overwhelm
What will it affect? Leadership

The solar eclipse is happening on August 21st in the sign of Leo. It’s happening at the very last degree, at 29°. Sometimes when we get so sure of ourselves we need something to stand in our way and reflect back to us our darkness, our shadow our shortcomings. Do we step aside and let others share in the glory and shine their brightness. Do we believe we have nothing to learn from the young? Or do we think that we deserve to reign forever? There comes a time when we have to step down or step aside. Either because we have served our time; are doing too much and it’s affecting our health, or because we have blocked out the wisdom of all others and in so doing are weakening our reign. At the 29th° (the last degree) one way or another, the leadership is getting ready to step down or retire.

Whether the leadership steps aside or is forced to move aside, those waiting in the wings, ready or not, will be forced to shine brightly with their abilities.

Sitting on top of the Sun is the Moon. Where normally her emotional wisdom is hard to see at the New Moon, at the eclipse, it comes to the fore. The Sabian symbol for the 29th° of Leo is ‘a mermaid emerges from the ocean waves ready for rebirth in human form’. Whatever is in the collective unconscious around leadership will now come to the surface in the most emotional way and will birth a new type of leadership.

Also seated at the leadership council table while the Sun disappears is Mars to the right and Mercury who is still retrograde, to the left. So close to the Sun, they are normally unseen too. But as the Sun’s light is blocked out, they become visible and others will look to them. This however is a bit of an awkward moment. Mercury stands up and starts to draw. She wants to draw her ideas about the future. But Mercury is retrograde at the moment and creating drawings about the future proves difficult.

Mars is on the other side. He’s the young executive. The up and coming leader. The one who’s been bragging to his buddies that he could do a better job! The Sabian Symbol for the degree that Mars is at is at is ‘intoxicated chickens dizzily flap their wings trying to fly’. The message is clear, though they have wings, they, at the moment cannot fly. Chicken can’t fly because that’s how they were bred – by humans. To survive they will need to learn to fly again. But for now, while in charge, and tasked with crossing the road, they are reminded to slow down, build up their capacity and constantly remind themselves to look both ways.

Some of us will be the eclipsed leaders represented by the sun, but chances are, most of us will be Mother, Mercurian or Martian at this New Moon eclipse. As Pluto opposes Ceres on the same day, we may feel thrust into this nurturing, leadership and care-taking role for the world, our work, our families and for some of us, our personal lives. Don’t get overwhelmed.

The best approach for Mother moon is to allow the theatrical and drama queen emotions.

The best place for Mercury to start his or her communication is to go over the past. As Bob Marley says “if we don’t know her past we don’t know where future”.

Mars, on the other hand, will get some help from Saturn and Lilith as it makes a trine to them. This will help Mars to ground in the newly emerging outer and inner truth of leadership. Lilith holds out her hand to help him. She reminds him that they are equal. Saturn lend him shamanistic advice, and a dose of patience and persistence! To fly, he will have to let go of his man-made breeding, (socialization, childhood learning), trust his instincts and embrace humility!

Cutting through the overwhelm

What to expect: Freedom in structure
What to watch out for: Lack of confidence
What will it affect? Work, organization, relationships

On August 23rd and 24th as we swim in the overwhelm of our new responsibility… caretaker’s of the world, Pluto gets some help from Vesta. She’s in Virgo and lends some planning ability to the work we now need to get done; list, calendars, project plans. Neptune will also sextile Pallas, the goddess of feminine strategy, giving us the ability to develop a strategy that captures the big picture and is spiritually connected.

We may also feel some relationship issues pop up and they may be a little unpredictable. It’s all good. We can work them out as Venus trines Chiron. The energy also helps us to be creative and innovative.

Building Solid Structures

What to expect: Renovations
What to watch out for: Missing important details
What will it affect? Goals, plans, structures

On August 25th, Saturn slows down and goes direct. Saturn is in Sagittarius and has been doing its audit on all things Sagittarius including religion (note the Pope poo pooing on Astrology last week), travel (hopefully they learned something about overbooking and how to treat customers), publishing (are we done with the false news yet?). As Saturn moves forward we should see new structure in place that addresses the weaknesses and flaws in all these areas. The next day Saturn sextiles Jupiter. This is excellent energy for building structures that got missed and since Jupiter is in Libra, balancing out any imbalances that had come to light during the retrograde. It’s the kind of energy you need to make a concerted effort to take advantage off. If you want to build integrity and reputable structures, make sure to get to work and take advantage of it.

There are more favourable aspects for getting to work. On the 26th, Mars meets up with the North Node. This will help to set our compass in the right direction. The Sun also meets up with Mercury, which is nearing the end of its retrograde. Lay out all the projects and plans you’ve come up with over the last three month. Check and recheck. Proof and correct. Test and trial run.

Horoscope: Aug 14 – 20, 2017

Aug 14 – 20

Spiritus Mundi

What to expect: Things to fall apart
What to watch out for: Underhandedness
What will it affect? Politics, governments, relationships, All ism’s (racism, feminism, etc)

Since the beginning of the month, Pluto and Venus have been locking horns. Jupiter is in Libra and really wants fairness. Pluto wants power and is in the sign that rules old institutions, Capricorn. White supremacy, the old boys club, just about anybody who has held institutional power, are now fighting to keep it.

Venus will come up to trigger more of this dialog on Aug 15th. Come on, she is saying! And she might turn into a holy hell of a b!tch. This is because Venus is super emotional in Cancer and is opposing Pluto. Jealousy, emotional manipulation, gas lighting; all these behaviours might form part of the picture. Then Venus will square Jupiter in Libra on August 16th. Libra is the sign that rules Venus, so she gives Jupiter more power. She will be screaming “Fairness Now”!

The best lack all conviction, while the worst, Are full of passionate intensity. – W.B. Yeats

Unfortunately, though the combination creates a bit of laziness. To worsen matters, Neptune is opposite Vesta making us confused and unsure of what to do? We know our purpose, we know there is work to be done, but what exactly will make the difference, we don’t know. So instead we may bury ourselves in excesses like Netflix, food, wine or all three! Try your absolute best to avoid letting that happen. It’s okay to be mired in confusion. Paradoxically, If we stay open to possibility and present to the discomfort of being directionless rather than numbing out, we will find our way.

Visioning

What to expect: Great ideas
What to watch out for: Taking action
What will it affect? Direction, projects, expansion

Just a few days later, on Aug 20th Mars will sextile Jupiter and the Sun will trine Uranus. This is a great day for innovation, envisioning change, or new processes. We’ll feel ready for taking risks and confident in our direction. Though it might feel like the time to take action, it’s not. We’re still in Mercury retrograde and on Aug 21st we’ll experience an eclipse and we need to wait for the information that the eclipse will bring us before moving forward. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take advantage of this energy. Put your ideas on brainstorming sticky notes and leave them in a visual place to decide and act on later.

Why? Mars Sextile Jupiter, Sun Trine Uranus
