Aries Solar Eclipse – April 8, 2024

The solar eclipse is happening at 19° of Aries. Aries is the sign of ‘I am’, it signifies courage, independence, and defining the self as separate. It is the sign of the pioneer and those who are enterprising.

A solar eclipse is a supercharged New Moon. New Moons are generally times for setting new intentions and becoming clear on what we want to manifest in our lives. Eclipses magnify this power. Intentions set can move us towards our purpose. The points where the plane of the Moon’s orbital path meets the ecliptic are called lunar nodes. Eclipses happen when the moon comes in front of the Sun on that path. The lunar nodes are always closest at eclipses. The north node is also called the dragon’s head and the dragon’s tail is the point on the other side, the south node. This eclipse is a north node eclipse, which makes it a more positive eclipse, moving us in the direction we are meant to go.

The eclipse is conjunct Chiron, the wounded healer. Chiron is an asteroid that represents our wounds. In Aries these are wounds related to being ourselves, who we are, striking out independently. These wounds generally come from others not liking or accepting our individuality. Those wanting us to conform or remain part of the tribe. Thinking differently, dressing differently, and striking out on our own requires courage.

Chiron deeply colours this eclipse as it is at the exact degree of the eclipse. Those Chiron wounds we have suffered for standing up and being ourselves can be eclipsed during this time. If we need to fight for our right to be ourselves, we will be well equipped as Chiron will allow us to access the right skills and to balance fighting with peace.

In Chiron’s myth, he was raised by Apolo, who taught him many skills including medicine, music, prophecy, poetry and law. Chiron was kind, wise and mild. He became the teacher of many men and always taught them to balance “ reason and wildness”. Chiron was immortal but became physically wounded, could not die and experienced constant pain. He gave up his immortality to allow Prometheus to live. In so doing he was rewarded with a place in the stars.

The eclipse has a sacred warrior energy to it. The ruler of the eclipse is Mars, which is in Pisces, the sign connected to spirituality, unconditional love, and the collective unconscious. It’s conjunct Saturn in Pisces which does bring a challenge to the sacred warrior. The challenge has a karmic feel as Saturn is connected to Karma. It’s also connected to time, the status quo, and institutions. In its role as karmic, it brings lessons, structure and responsibilities. Pisces is also the highest octave of Venus, which speaks to unconditional love. Chiron will bring up attempts to wound our identity, courage, or physicality. The key to overcoming these wounds is generosity; giving to others what you have learned through the pain you have endured unconditionally!

If you are planning to have a ceremony at the eclipse, tap into chitons the healing power through music and vibration… drums, flute, singing bowl or the voice… 174hz is said to have the frequency of healing, 396hz removes fear, 417hz is said to heal past trauma and may be a good one for this eclipse because it’s related to the sacral chakra, as is mars.

Mars conjunct Saturn has another energy associated with it. Mars is our sexuality and in Pisces, it can have the energy of sacred sexuality. Mars in connection with Saturn can take on a darkness or in its highest expression can be disciplined and structured.

As a dark expression, Mars and Saturn would show up as bondage, domination and submission, sadism and masochism.

According to the Merck Manual

“Sadomasochistic fantasies and sexual behaviour between consenting adults is very common. Masochistic activity tends to be ritualized and long-standing. For most participants (similar to most other paraphilic interests), the humiliation and beating are simply acted out; participants know that it is a game and carefully avoid actual humiliation or injury, often through the use of a prenegotiated “safe word.” However, some masochists increase the severity of their activity with time and may stop using their safe word to protect themselves, which can potentially lead to serious injury or death.”

In other words, the professionals say that there is a healthy and an unhealthy expression of this side of Mars and Saturn.

I think there is a higher expression of this energy. The highest expression is hieros gamos” or sacred sex. Sacred sex invokes structure and discipline through structured practices such as seed retention and energy direction. The goal is to reconnect with the divine through integrating masculine and feminine energies and to create positive alchemy.

This brings me to the asteroid Magdalena. Magdalena is conjunct with the North Node. It is associated with the energy of Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene has been connected with Inanna, Ishtar, and Isis and all are associated with the divine feminine. Mary Magdalene was accused of being a prostitute but was likely connected to sacred sex practices. Mary Magdalene was also connected with gnostics and the catharsis, religious groups who held importance to the divine feminine or Sophia.

At the eclipse, the Sun and Moon are united. On its own, this unites masculine and feminine. The fact that the eclipse is happening in Aries, draws in Mars, the ruler of the eclipse. This is also masculine energy! Mars is in the sign where Venus is exalted or in her highest octave and this draws in Venus. Venus will be Aries, where Venus is said to be debilitated and ruled by Mars. So in a way, they are submitting to each other and taking on the energy of each other.

Sun and Moon, Mars and Venus coming together is powerful alchemy!

To add to it, the asteroid Magdalena is there with the north node and she is calling us to move towards the divine feminine. To remember the ways of sacred sexuality. In Aries she reminds us of a time when Venus was associated with war… when She was associated with Inanna, the goddess of love and war. She reminds us to fight for the return of the divine feminine. But also the healing of the masculine!

When the divine feminine was submerged and suppressed, it is said that the alchemy of sacred sex went underground and became misused showing up as sex magic, designed for only material gain. It is rumoured to be used by the likes of Jeffery Epstein and others that likely show up in his little black book, but also goes back in time. This energy can and will likely be used by dark forces, but it is also equally available to those who carry the light!

The Sabian symbol is A young girl feeding birds in winter. It reminds us that we can survive in harsh conditions, but life is made easier by giving, sharing and compassion.

Happy Solar Eclipse!

Virgo Full Moon – February 24, 2024

The Virgo Full Moon is on February 24th. It’s at 5 degrees of Virgo! We may feel a strong desire to organize our lives and to de-clutter or destroy what is no longer necessary. Virgo represents details, organization, analysis, routines, health care or self-care. At this full moon, we are encouraged to remove the things from our lives that are not helpful. The full moon is a time of illumination and completion. It’s a time to release what no longer serves us, clearing the way to allow us to manifest our desires.

The moon is conjunct transpluto Isis. Transputo Isis represents transformation, healing and rebirth. Isis was a powerful goddess known for her magic and wisdom. She was also strongly linked to Virgo. The constellation of Virgo is represented by a goddess holding an ear of wheat, symbolizing fertility and abundance. In ancient astrology, Virgo was also called the Furrow. A furrow is a long deep wedge created in the land making it ready for planting seeds and creating the right conditions for fertility. Her conjunction with the moon further emphasizes the need to clear away so that we can make the soil of our lives ready and fertile.

The Sun opposite the moon is conjunct Saturn, Mercury and the dwarf planet Gonggong. Saturn in Pisces brings structure to all that is hidden in our subconscious, to our spiritual connection and our dreams. We feel motivated to bring heaven to earth but may struggle to balance practicality with our vision and purpose. Our goal with Saturn in Pisces is to create boundaries around ourselves and those dreams, visions and purpose. Mercury has now joined the Sun and Saturn in Pisces, and this can bring us into a deep connection with our intuition and higher truths, however, doubt and other depressive thoughts can also creep in. Our dreams are big, but we can feel overwhelmed by the road in front of us or we feel doubts about the reality of them being realized.

The Sun is also conjunct dwarf planet Gonggong. According to Chinese folklore, Gong Gong was a water god who caused devastating floods by smashing his head against Mount Buzhou. A dragon, Gonggong is described as having a copper human head with an iron forehead, red hair, and the body of a serpent. Gong Gong is the symbol of chaos and destruction and his collision with Earth was described as causing the Earth to tilt on its axis. Gonggongs conjunction with the Sun, Saturn and Mercury suggest that there may be destruction within our lives, thoughts and structures beyond our control. It may also suggest that we are creating destruction and in so doing throwing our lives a little off-kilter.

In some versions of the myth, Gong Gong’s actions were out of desperation to save his people from a drought. Gonggong is not just about chaos and destruction, but also about sacrifice and the lengths we go to for humanity. This reminds us that we can have compassion for the wrecking ball that may be going through our lives right now, as it is meant to save us.

Interestingly, in the myth, the Goddess Nuwa comes in the save the day. She chops off a leg of a turtle and uses it to hold up the pillars of the heavens and in so doing stops the flood and destruction. Her part of the myth points us back to Isis, who can be said to be her Egyptian counterpart. Like Nuwa, Isis also could reconstruct and resurrect and she reminds us that even as we experience the destruction of the structures in our lives, we can know that we are supported in and through our deep transformations.

The Virgo moon is also helped out with an optimistic trine to Jupiter in Taurus. Jupiter in Taurus encourages us to focus on our values and material possessions and to create a solid foundation for the future. It asks us to connect with the earth on a deeper level and to build a life that is both fulfilling and sustainable. It should be noted that Jupiter is squaring Venus and Mars which can cause us to lack discipline and lose interest quickly. It can make us more impulsive and prone to conflicts in our relationships, while at the same time overly optimistic or unrealistic when it comes to the things we love. Use the Virgo moon energy to temper any of these imbalances. If we combine the earth energies of the Virgo and Taurus, we can temper these impulses with practicality and moderation.  We can balance the stability, optimism and innovation we need to realize our dreams.

The Sabian symbol for the moon is “a merry-go-round” It encourages us to embrace transformation and evolution in our lives. The merry-go-round represents the cyclical nature of life and the need for us to go with the flow. Just like a merry-go-round, life has its ups and downs. If you are fearful you will feel like life is spinning out of control, but if you embrace the merry-go-round of life and trust in the process of growth and transformation it can be enjoyable.

Happy Full Moon in Virgo!

Aquarius New Moon – Feb 9, 2024

New Moon in Aquarius

The New Moon on February 9th is at 20 degrees of Aquarius. Aquarius is associated with humanity, innovation, technology, rebelliousness, disruption, computers, technology, networks and groups, electricity, all things unique or weird, philosophers, inventors, and freedom. The symbol of the jar pouring out water represents the technology of water, spirit, and intellect. At this new moon, we can set intentions around any of these areas!

The new moon is square to Uranus in Taurus suggesting that there could be some sudden developments or breakthroughs. For example, since Uranus is in Taurus, these sudden developments will likely have to do with money, security, and agriculture. You may find that you have a windfall or that you suddenly have unexpected financial burdens. This may also affect food and/or food security. Farmers may revolt (or revolt more!). Groups may come together with innovative ideas or technologies in any of these areas. Don’t be surprised

to see technologies that disrupt or innovations that change all that we know about finance, food, and security.

The New Moon is sextile to Chiron which is at the north node in Aries. Despite anything negative, we will experience healing related to any wounds around self-expression and our sense of freedom. Any changes will highlight ‘who we are now’ or ‘who we are choosing to be’. Chiron is finally meeting up with the North Node and the illumination from the New Moon helps to direct us on a new path; A path connected with purpose and destiny.

The traditional ruler of the New Moon is Saturn in Pisces connecting us deeply to the water element of Uranus. The electricity, currents, and spirit; we can tap into the technology that exists within them both now and as yet unknown.

The modern ruler of the New Moon Uranus is Taurus. This gives strength to any innovations, revolutions, and radical changes happening in finance, agriculture, and security.

The New Moon is also conjunct with the asteroid Orpheus. According to legend, Orpheus was “a renowned poet, musician, and prophet from Thrace who could charm and influence all living things, even stone itself, through his musical abilities”. He was said to be the “greatest musician and poet to have ever lived”.

Orpheus’s connection with the magic of music reminds us of the power of sound and vibration. A powerful way to use the energy of the New Moon would be to connect with water, leylines, standing stones, and any natural setting that uses the technology of the vibration of music and song to connect it with our intentions. In the story of Jason and the Argonauts, Orpheus accompanied the warriors on a mission to retrieve the golden fleece. While at sea they encountered Sirens known to enchant sailors to their demise. Though not a soldier with weapons and armor, Orpheus uses his musical charm to drown out the sirens allowing the sailors to pass through the sea unharmed. This story points to the power of music, particularly in connection with water.

Orpheus is also connected with grief, loss of faith, and guilt. In another story, Orpheus loses his wife to a snake bite. To get her back, he uses his music to charm his way into the underworld. There he meets with Hades and Persephone and they are so moved by his love for his wife that they grant her permission to return with him to the land of the living. The only condition is that on their way Orpheus cannot look back. Worried that she is not behind him on the way, he looks back and watches as she is pulled back into the underworld. We can use the energy of the New Moon to examine and process our grief and make breakthroughs in areas where we lack faith. Where have we broken the flow of energy because of a lack of faith?

Orpheus was also related to a cult of belief. Orpheus is said to have learned about life and death in his descent to the underworld. Not much is known about this belief system, but what is known is that they believed in original sin and reincarnation. In Orphic belief, we are destined to return to the land of the living 10 times before being able to end the cycle of reincarnation. Through Orphic practices which seemed to include refraining from drinking from the river of forgetfulness and drinking instead from the river of memory during our return to life, we can shorten the cycle of reincarnation. Perhaps the basis for this belief system was a hope that Orpheus could be reunited with his wife and love…. Whatever the motivation, Orpheus is also connected with transforming the soul to end “samsara”

Ultimately Orpheus in Aquarius is connected with energy in various ways – With the energy and power of sound and vibration; with the energy of our being, transforming it in the pursuit of reconnecting with the source of love; and with the energy that stands in the way of our desires through loss of faith, guilt and our forgetfulness of our nature.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is “A woman disappointed and disillusioned courageously faces a seemingly empty life” This points to facing disappointment, loss of faith, and the transformation of emotions.

Happy New Moon in Aquarius!
