I thought I wasn’t going to write anything about this Gemini New Moon. I had nothing to say. It is not making any aspects to any other planets, and the only word that was coming to me was the word curiosity. Gemini is a lot of other things: witty, communicative, intellectual and on the negative end of things, dualistic, restless, fickle and changeable. But for this New Moon, curiosity stood out!
I usually look at a New Moon or Full Moon chart, and let it steep in my consciousness for a couple of days. I stay open and curious about what is really coming through, and in the midst of that process, let the information come to me. This time during that process, I had another question that seemed more pressing. I wrote last week about cleaning up my subscriber list. I had removed those who had not read my posts in months and asked those who were still reading if they really wanted to be. Several subscribers took me up on my offer and removed themselves from my list. Others felt more drawn to me and my work and reached out to connect with me a little personally in one way or another. I got curious, and I asked, “What is one problem I can solve for one person on my list so that I can draw in more like them?” Basically, I had a curious question about what I have to offer. The next day, someone sent me an email sharing with me that they loved my work, enjoyed learning about the cosmos and that they looked forward to my book. They wondered if I was going to offer courses. They would love to take a course, but the reality is that they were struggling financially and wondered if I had any books/resources that were free that they could read.
I got curious, and suddenly someone showed up to answer my question! I now know exactly what to offer and what is next!
The idea of serving needs to be part of your curiosity or your open inquiry at this New Moon. While there are no planets aspected to it, there are asteroids, and one of the asteroids is Hebe.
Hebe was the Greek goddess of youth and the cupbearer to the Olympian gods. She served them nectar and ambrosia, which helped them to maintain their immortality. Hebe performed domestic duties for her family, such as bathing her brother Ares and assisting her mother Hera with her chariot. After her marriage to the hero Heracles (Hercules) upon his ascension to Olympus, she was replaced as cupbearer by Ganymede. Astrologically, Hebe brings in the energy of serving and providing not just what people need, but also what is playful, youthful, and optimistic and what they want. Hebe doesn’t give people what she thinks they should have, but what brings pleasure and delight.
There is another asteroid conjunct the New Moon. It’s an asteroid called. Gǃkúnǁʼhòmdímà. It’s named after a girl rain-shaman of the Juǀʼhoansi people in Namibia. A beautiful goddess, she can shape shift into an ardvark or an elephant. In this form, she defends her community and punishes wrongdoers.
Now we may think that when she turns into an elephant, she may just stomp on the wrongdoers. But there is a different defensive energy at this Gemini New Moon.
I’m reminded of the story of the blind men who come into contact with an elephant. The group of blind men felt out the situation, each touching a different part of an elephant and describing it based on their limited experience. One describes something long and moving, another a smooth pointed object, another a leathery surface and so on. Each man’s description was different – not wrong, but subjective, yet it led to arguments about what they had come across. Yet if they zoomed out their perspective, they would learn that their perspective is really only part of a larger truth. So as an elephant, Gǃkúnǁʼhòmdímà may just stomp out wrongdoing by making people more aware of perspectives and a larger truth, which can also be achieved by being more curious.
The Sabian symbol for this New Moon is a gardener trimming large palm trees. This reminds us that even as we get curious and allow things to grow, at some point, we have to prune. Once you’ve become curious, don’t forget to prune away all that doesn’t matter (or matter for the moment)
Happy New in Gemini
