The Tychos and The Secret Dance of the Sun and Mars

The Secret Dance of the Sun and Mars

A Different Kind of Solar System

Long ago, people believed that Earth was the center of everything and that the Sun, Moon, and stars moved around it (Ptolemy). Later, scientists said that the Sun was at the center and that Earth and the other planets travelled around it (Copernicus – Kepler). But what if there was another way to look at it?

A man named Tycho Brahe, one of history’s greatest astronomers, had a different idea. He thought the Sun moved around the Earth while all the other planets orbited the Sun. His Model was called the Tychonic system.  Researcher Simon Shack re-examined his model and developed the Tychos Model, which helps explain the way our solar system actually works!

The Sun’s Secret Partner

Did you know that most stars in space have a partner? These are called binary stars, and they move together like dance partners. But what about our Sun? Scientists have always thought the Sun was alone. The Tychos Model suggests that the Sun has a secret companion: Mars!

Mars and the Sun move in a slow, careful dance around the Earth. This explains some strange things scientists have noticed about how the planets move. Though Kepler was said to have solved the problem of Mars, on closer inspection we find that he did not! Look even further and disappointingly we will find that Kepler ‘fudged’ his numbers! However, using our understanding of binary stars, the motion of Mars from Earth’s perspective now makes sense.

The Mystery of the Stars

When you look up at the night sky, the stars seem to stay in the same place year after year. But astronomers have discovered that they actually shift, very slowly, over time. Scientists used to think this was because Earth was wobbling, but the Tychos Model suggests something different: Earth moves very slowly in its own orbit, taking 25,344 years to complete one full journey!

This tiny movement helps explain why the stars change position over centuries. Imagine drawing a tiny dot every day to make a huge circle—it takes a long time, but eventually, the pattern appears. This 25,344 is called the PVP (Polaris, Vega, Polaris) orbit.

Today, our north star is Polaris. In about 11500 years from now, our north star will be Vega. (Image source: Oakton Edu)

The Great Cosmic Clock

Have you ever noticed how everything in nature follows patterns? The seasons change, the Moon goes through its phases, and the Sun rises and sets at just the right time. The Tychos Model shows that our solar system is like a giant clock, with each planet playing its part. Even the way meteors and comets move fits into this pattern!

The Mayan calendar operated like a great clock. The Greeks also had a similar device, sometimes called the oldest computer, called the Antikythera mechanism. The Tychos show the amazing resonance and harmony of our entire system!

What This Means for Astrology

Tycho Brahe’s ideas were almost forgotten, but thanks to new discoveries and modern technology and Simon Shack, his vision has come back to life. But this is astronomy….. what does this mean for astrology?

We are constantly evolving in our understanding of the cosmos and its impact on our lives. Rudolf Steiner often spoke about this evolution. Ptolemy who believed that earth was the centre came from a time when there was a deeper connection of the cosmos to spirit. Of great importance was the order of the planets and their spheres of influence including the angelic realm of cherubs, angels, powers, and principalities. Steiner believed that during this time we were much more connected to spirituality.  Of the Copernicus-Kepler system, he explained that it brought us into a time of scientific supremacy and materialism.  He explained that both of those systems were “perspectives” but not the “truth”. In the past we were too far into spirituality, currently, we are too far into materialism. He spoke of a time when we would evolve to a deeper understanding of the cosmos and encouraged further exploration of Tycho Brahe’s ideas.

And see, you now want to explore for what to explore for the future of the twentieth century, a significant helpers, so to speak, someone who can guess in connection on the supernatural world, when you need impulses that Inside, then it is the individuality of Julian Apostata – Tycho de Brahe. It is not on the physical plan today, but it is actually always there and always provides information about those Things relating especially to the Prophetic refer to the twentieth century.” (Lit.: GA 238, p. 103)

Steiner’s Anthroposophy was all about developing a spiritual science – a science that returned us to spirituality. It can be suggested then, that the Tychos brings us to a time of uniting spirit and science.  This is the topic of my upcoming book, The Path is the Way. In it, I examine how the Tychos helps us to rejoin astrology with astronomy; science and spirit.  I reconnect to the path through the planetary sphere drawing a different map, one that embraces ancient knowledge and the Tychos.

I  explore the harmony and resonance of “the great cosmic clock” and how we can use it spiritually. I also explore the age we are in helped by understanding the PVP orbit (or Great Year).  Finally, I explore the implications of the partnership between Mars and the Sun and re-examine the cycles of the planets as a means to spiritually evolve.
